RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS

Fairoak Lane Cottages

A contemporary extension to a traditional home. The house consists of two thirds of a small terrace of workers cottages. Two properties were combined in the past and although the resulting house is sizable, the rooms and windows are small resulting in relatively dark interior spaces.

The brief was to open the rear of the house to take advantage of the extensive rear garden with stunning rural views beyond, and to improve natural light penetration into the rear living space.

At first floor, a dilapidated balcony serving the master bedroom was replaced by a visually, lightweight glazed balcony. At ground floor, sliding stacking glazed doors with a fixed glazed roof provides enclosure to a wrap around extension.  Light floods into the space and the room benefits from a double aspect clear opening formed by the sliding stacking doors providing a clear connection to the outside with level access to garden areas.

The extension was completed in Summer 2009
