Reading Community Welfare Rights Unit

A new community facility within a residential area in Reading.

A new facility was needed for the Reading Community Welfare Rights Unit. The new proposals provide a welcoming reception area, waiting space and interview rooms on the ground floor to serve the local community. On the first floor, staff will have an open plan office environment. A secure car parking courtyard is provided at the rear with bicycle shelter and bin store, together with disabled parking.

The building is designed to fit in to the surrounding residential area so it is restrained in height and scale. A feature corner stair tower, however, adds a little emphasis to the street scene.

The building has been designed to be as robust as possible using fair faced brickwork and powdered coated aluminium windows.

The architects obtained planning permission and prepared detailed drawings for tendering. The project remains unbuilt.
